Cobalt
Harder than platinum and scratch resistant surface. It will not break, chip, or shatter. The luster and finish will not fade or tarnish and can be polished as platinum. It’s lightweight and also resistant to corrosion making it very compatible to human skin.
Platinum
Typically has a shiny white appearance. It’s a heavy precious (rare) metal that is also hypoallergenic and resistant to tarnishing and most chemicals. It can be scratched but be polished out. Platinum is also quite more expensive and also pricey to repair and resize.
Titanium
Known for its lightweight and strong durability. It’s also resistant to corrosion and tarnishing. It is possible for Titanium to be scratched and still on the more expensive size when it comes to repair and resizing. Titanium is also a metal that makes engraving difficult.
Palladium
This is a precious (rare) metal that can be polished to a high mirror finish. It is lightweight with only half the weight of platinum. It is hypoallergenic but can become dull over a long period of time and will need a professional polish to restore its original shine.
Seranite
This is newer material that is ceramic based. It has a natural characteristics of being strong, durable and scratch proof. Unlike most darker colored rings with layers of coating that give a darker color, seranite is naturally dark to the core.The weight is comparable to titanium.
Gold
Heavy characteristic but is also the softest metal of all. It is highly resistant to oxidation. Although a classic look, this metal takes some care and maintenance as it can be easily scratched and bent. Gold is also one of the most expensive of all options.

The DNA of the Mille Miglia collection

Immaculately white and immediately recognisable thanks to its rubber strap featuring the famous 1960s Dunlop Racing tyre-tread motif, the Mille Miglia Chrono Lady is a worthy descendant of its predecessors. The collection’s signature characteristics are all present, although in a significantly more feminine mode thanks to a clever choice of colours and materials – exemplified by the mother-of-pearl dial, the pristine strap and the sparkle of the diamond-set bezel. Other details liable to appeal to feminine adventurers with dainty wrists include the slender lines of the case and its slightly smaller size (42 mm). About Colored Gold Alloys: A Rainbow of Options

What’s not to love about gold? It helps your computer run, makes for memorable Austin Powers characters, and makes your bling sing. But these days the cost of gold seems to be climbing ever skyward and many people turn to more economic solutions when it comes to their jewelry. However, you can still get the luxurious quality of gold but in a more wallet-friendly form: colored gold alloys.
One of the reasons that gold is a valued material outside of the jewelry industry is because of its highly malleable nature. Gold can be hammered into a leaf that is less than 100 nanometers thick. Gold also easily combines with other metals to create alloys. It’s these other metals that can give gold a different color and the two most common (and durable) colored gold alloys are Rose Gold and White Gold.

White Gold

Gold can be mixed with either nickel, silver, manganese, palladium, or combinations of these to create the look of white gold. A nickel alloy is the hardest and strongest of these, however, many people are allergic to nickel so a palladium alloy would be more allergy friendly. White gold was originally developed in the 1920’s as an option to the more expensive platinum.

Rose Gold

Also known as red gold and pink gold, this alloy combines gold and copper. This particular metal was popular in Russia at the beginning of the nineteenth century so it used to be known as Russian gold as well. The most common alloy will combine 75% gold and 25% copper, but the gold will have a stronger red color the more copper is used. Occasionally zinc will be added to this alloy to create a darker or reddish-yellow color.

Green Gold

Green gold is a combination of yellow gold and silver and creates a yellow gold with a green tinge. This alloy is preferred with using fired enamels in jewelry making as the enamel will stick to the gold better. Something to be careful about with green gold is that cadmium can be added to make the metal more green, but cadmium is toxic.

Black Gold

The look of black gold can be achieved through several processes either by electroplating with black rhodium, using a patina of sulfur and oxygen, chemical vapor deposition with amorphous carbon, or by the oxidation of a chromium or cobalt and gold alloy.

Blue/Purple Gold

Blue gold is an alloy of gold and indium and this produces a faint blue color, although gallium can be added to create a darker blue. Blue gold is not frequently used for making jewelry as it is a very brittle material. Purple gold, also brittle, combines gold and aluminum. Both of these gold alloys corrode easily and should not be exposed to sweat.
Because all of these golds are alloys, there is no such thing as a “pure” colored gold. Instead of combining gold and other metals to make an alloy, gold can also give the appearance of being color by means of a thin coating of paint, dye, or oxide. These colors are much stronger and brighter.

But few can proudly boast placing at the Couture Design Awards in the resplendent Wynn Hotel such as punk-goth jewelry designer Stephen Webster who took first place for the Diamond Jewelry over $20,000 category.
Stephen Webster stole the show with their incredibly unique “The Temptation of Eve” cocktail ring, a design based around the story from the book of Genesis. The ring made of 18 karat white gold and the body of the serpent is set with six carats of round-cut white diamonds. The serpent’s tail wraps around two fingers and a beautiful five carat Forevermark round-cut diamond. Right now the ring is estimated to cost upwards of $400,000.
The diamonds for this extraordinary piece came from the Dali Diamond company, based in Antwerp. Stephen Webster holds the claim for being the first British jewelry designer to create designs using Forevermark Diamonds, the rare and responsibly sourced diamond brand from the De Beers Group of Companies.
This year’s Couture Design Awards had a totalof 62 entries placed into ten categories. The jewelry industry specialists placed on the judging panel were Susan Abeles, Director of Jewelry for Bonham’s auction house; Eric Ford, Precious Jewelry Buyer at Nieman Marcus; Janice Blumberg, of Be on Park; Alison Rowe, Fashion and Accessories Editor for Niche Media; Claudia Mata, Jewelry and Accessories Director for W Magazine; and Stephen Webster.
