Custom Ring for the 'Girl Next Door' Holly Madison

Some may know her as a “Girl Next Door” and others from maybe “Dancing with the Stars,” but now she can tote a new claim to fame. American model and tv personality, Holly Madison, is engaged to Pasquale Rotella. I know, you’re so excited! But before you go jumping for joy, checkout the ring her husband-to-be designed for her.

Notice I said, ‘Designed for her.’ This 18-carat cushion cut yellow diamond and rose gold ring is the handy work of Mr. Rotella himself. The ring is surrounded by pink and yellow diamond flowers and even has a couple fine details that are unique to the future bride and groom. One of those details is an owl… yep, an owl… “Because we love owls, there is a hidden owl engraved on the rose gold in between two of the flowers,” Madison revealed.
Oh and if anyone is wondering, she said, “Yes!”

NEW TRIPLE FORMATION FOR IWC'S PILOT'S WATCH SQUADRON

Swiss watch manufacturer IWC Schaffhausen is upgrading its popular Pilot’s Watch collection. With three new models to choose from, the TOP GUN watch family now has reinforcements. The family takes its name from a special training course offered by the United States Navy Fighter Weapons School, the “Strike Fighter Tactics Instructor”, better known by the legendary accolade “Top Gun”. Anyone who successfully completes this course is part of an elite comprising the best-trained, fastest-reacting and most courageous pilots in the world. IWC Schaffhausen’s designers took their inspiration for the three special editions from the cockpit instrument displays found in jets, which glow in various colours at night. The Big Pilot’s Watch Perpetual Calendar TOP GUN Boutique Edition (IW502903) comes with red hands and indices, the Big Pilot’s Watch TOP GUN Boutique Edition (IW501903) with green and the Pilot’s Watch Chronograph TOP GUN Boutique Edition (IW388003) with blue. Equipped with ceramic (zirconium oxide) cases – the back and crown are made of titanium – the timepieces are extremely rugged, skin-friendly and relatively light. The three new high-flyers, which are available in limited editions at IWC boutiques worldwide, are fitted with a black soft strap.

ZENITH OPENS SHOP AT KING JEWELER’S WATCH SALON IN AVENTURA, FL

The King family proudly announces the opening of the Zenith watch boutique at King Jeweler’s Aventura watch salon. Founded in Le Locle in 1865 by a visionary watchmaker, Georges Favre-Jacot, the Manufacture Zenith earned swift recognition for the precision of its chronometers with which it has won 2,333 chronometry prizes in a century and a half of existence: an absolute record in terms of pocket watches, onboard timers and wristwatches. Having earned fame thanks to its legendary El Primero caliber – an integrated automatic column-wheel chronograph movement launched in 1969 and endowed with a high frequency of 36,000 vibrations per hour that ensures measurements accurate to the nearest 1/10th of a second – the Manufacture Zenith has since developed over 600 movement variations. All Zenith watches are fitted with an in-house Zenith movement and are developed by the Manufacture in Le Locle. The latter currently stands at the exact spot where its founder built the first company workshop, thus physically embodying a continuity that is a rarity in itself.
The founder proved he was daring right from his first year in business. This visionary man had enormous light-filled workshops built in Le Locle, a small town in the Swiss canton of Neuchatel, with the goal of bringing all the skilled watchmaking trades together under one roof. The very first integrated watchmaking “Manufacture” was born, and has remained there since. It enabled him to develop and produce all of the components and control the entire manufacturing process – for the movements, of course, but also for enameled or painted dials, and even cases. He lost no time in teaching his craftsmen about his calling: continually inventing watches unlike any other, with complete creative freedom, and building them from start to finish.
In fact, innovation was to become a Zenith tradition – to such an extent that over its history, the Manufacture has registered more than 300 patents, created over 600 movement variations, and set the absolute record for chronometer prizes with 2,333. The first integrated automatic chronograph movement, launched in 1969, operated at the exceptional frequency of 36,000 vibrations per hour, and the El Primero chronograph continues to set standards to this day. It is also still the world’s most accurate series-produced calibre.
Such extraordinary feats would have been impossible without the men and women who performed them. While the company has, most of all, the talent and passion of its craftsmen to thank for its reputation that has endured generation after generation, it also owes its renown to the amazing projects it has supported over time, undertaken by some extraordinary personalities from among aviators, explorers, and adventurers. From Louis Blériot in 1909, through Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen, who discovered the South Pole in 1911, to Felix Baumgartner in 2012, Zenith’s history is replete with figures that epitomize its legacy of nurturing the entrepreneurial spirit of those who brave conventions to find freedom and fulfillment.
Within the watchmaking context, brands have to set themselves apart. This is primarily accomplished through the creation of distinct “worlds.” A long-established brand such as Zenith holds fast to its founding values, with which everyone – customers and employees alike – can identify. According to Jono King, President of King Jewelers, “We’re honored to partner with Zenith timepieces here in the South Florida market. Zenith has long been known as one of the finest and most historical Swiss watch manufacturers. Their technology, quality, and price points are unbelievable, not to mention the new Pilot and El Primero collections are outstandingly handsome.”

REAFFIRMING THE BRAND VALUES
King Jewelers shares the integrity and history with Zenith watches with more than 100 years of experience in the luxury watch and jewelry industry. As an integral part of a brand’s heritage, values enable the brand to construct a “moral framework,” a guideline that underlies all of its external and internal discourse. Zenith’s values have always clearly shown through in its decisions, actions, and collections. They are now stated explicitly.
Authenticity is a value that links the heritage of the past with the promises of the future. The word also implies that the brand is one of the very few manufacturers that design and develop their own movements. It is a reminder, if one were needed, that Zenith is a credible, legitimate brand. Manufacturing a Zenith watch and its components involves a total of 80 specialist trades, in a process lasting nine months on average. All of our craftsperson, regardless of their technical or artistic specialty – from miniaturization through working with shapes and materials, or prototype manufacturing and logistics, to timekeeping – share this passion for excellence and love to dedicate their talents to making timepieces they know will endure.
Daring is fundamental to the Zenith spirit – the spirit of innovation – which has been a deeply rooted part of its heritage since the very beginning. This value is tied to the kind of vision Georges Favre-Jacot showed in the early days of his company when he created the first integrated Manufacture in the history of modern watchmaking. Some of the company’s many inventions have been a part of this never-ending quest. Examples include El Primero, the first series-produced integrated automatic chronograph movement, which operates at the exceptional frequency of 10 vibrations per second, i.e., with tenth-of-a-second accuracy; the Gravity Control system, which counteracts the effects of gravity and which Zenith is the only manufacturer to offer; and finally the Academy Christophe Colomb Hurricane, a world first that not only brings together these two guarantors of absolute accuracy, but also provides an answer to the loss of isochronism as the watch winds down. The daring that Zenith has always shown can be equated with that of aviation pioneers such as Louis Blériot and Léon Morane, or of those who push back the limits of impossibility, such as Felix Baumgartner.
Finally, the last and probably the most subtle of the three values – pleasure – is to be understood in the sense of accomplishment, the satisfaction of having nothing to prove yet giving oneself the means always to forge ahead, with one’s watch as a companion. It is a value that implies recognition that scorns ostentation but savors the present moment, and in itself justifies the fact that Zenith has always supported the wildest and craziest of projects. Watchmaking complications continue to fire the imagination, despite the spread of virtual reality and the Internet. Today, more than ever, Zenith is still a constant companion of dream chasers.

Q&A with HYT CEO VINCENT PERRIARD

Q: Our family has had the pleasure of working with several founders of HYT over the years during which time many great conversations regarding the future of haute horology were had. With the creation of HYT, we have all been blown away as the future has truly arrived. That being said, what was the inspiration behind the H1 and HYDRO MECHANICAL HOROLOGISTS?
A: We always wanted to combine things that are not supposed to live together. Liquid has always been the enemy of the mechanical device in a watch, so combining them is a huge challenge, a complete disruption in the watch industry. HYT generates huge amount of attention on our H1 product, which is exactly what we wanted !
At HYT we have a very simple vision : LIQUID + MECHANICS. Everybody understands it.
Q: During the R&D and manufacturing of the H1 collection, what were the greatest challenges and obstacles that you faced?
A: So many ! The fluidic system in our HYT watches is really very complex. Extreme alchemists, HYT’s Hydro-Mechanical Horologists, we have turned utopia into reality – mixing mechanics and liquid within a wristwatch. While truly addicted to non-conformism, we have drawn upon the strictest codes in Fine Watchmaking – and felt entirely free to shatter them!By achieving the incredible challenge of indicating the time with water, we have not so much propelled a new UFO into the watchmaking stratosphere, as we have in fact pulverized all certainties by uniting two worlds that are supposedly diametrically opposed. Never since the water clocks of the pharaohs, have the laws of gravity been overcome to transpose this energy in a portable watch. HYT has done it. The leitmotif Fluid mechanics, or the ultimate in hybrid technology. The formula? Avantgarde watchmaking developments, engineering pushed to its heights, high-tech materials, and a design that generates genuine emotions.

The H1 and H2. Pieces of Fine Watchmaking that single-handedly epitomize the brand’s identity: an obsession with innovation, uncompromising execution and an intransigent approach to quality. The products are quite clearly the consistent core concern for HYT. A “time object” that provides intuitive readings, well off the beaten track. High-flying mechanics that bear testimony to a completely new approach. Bold architecture, leaving nothing to chance. Each element is wisely thought-through, and patiently built. Inspired and rebellious, the design imposes its codes, emphasising the exceptional temperament and creativity of the overall result. An authentic innovation incubator, HYT’s hydro-mechanical engineering lab of genius continues its quest for the absolute in the realm of hybrid development. The H1 takes it resolutely into the legend of Fine Watchmaking 2.0.
Q: Where do you foresee HYT’s position in the luxury Swiss watch market in five years?
A:Willing to remain unconventional, surprising, innovative. A reference within the independent Watchmakers with a substantial business platform, willing to grow.
Q:So if you happened to be wearing an HYT H1 Azo on your wrist in Miami Beach, which is one of my favorite personal pieces from the collection, what would be your luxury sport car of choice to accompany the watch?
A:Porsch 918 Spyder. Look at the tyros… the green breaks :))))

Q: One last question… if you could have dinner with anyone in history, who would you dine with and where?
A: Winston Churchill. A visionary man, the man who changed everything on June 6, 1944… In my home ! :)))

The Most Notable Engagement Rings in History

A wedding ring means so much! Yes, it represents when a man loves a woman and wants to spend his life with that woman, but it also signifies a symbolic work of art signifying love, style and sophistication. Sometimes that love is lived out in the most public of ways making it more than just a sacred and intimate moment of matrimony. This list showcases some of those notable public displays of love and the rings that became just as iconic as the individual.

Princess Diana chose her ring in 1981 from several shown to her. After Princess Diana’s death, William inherited a Cartier watch while Harry received the ring. Harry then decided to give the ring to William so the future queen could wear it. William proposed to Kate Middleton in Kenya with Princess Diana’s sapphire ring.

Jackie O

John Kennedy proposed to Jacqueline Bouvier on June 24, 1953 with a custom-made Van Cleef & Arpels engagement ring. This unique design features a 2.84 carat emerald and a 2.88 carat diamond with baguette accents. Later on, when Jackie became First Lady, she had the design changed replacing the baguettes with round diamonds. After the death of JFK, she had the ring restored to the original design.

Marilyn Monroe and Joe DiMaggio were married on January 14, 1954. Marilyn’s ring was made of platinum and 35 baguette-cut diamonds in a channel style. She chose an eternity ring instead of the classic engagement ring.

The Krupp Diamond given to Elizabeth Taylor by her 5th husband, Richard Burton. It is 33.19 carat stone and considered one of the world’s most flawless diamonds. She wore it in every film since it was given to her. In 1978, Taylor sold the ring and used the money to help build a hospital in Botswana, Africa.
Each of these rings possess a uniqueness that makes it stand out from the rest. It’s not so much as to who is wearing it or how big it may be, but the story behind what makes it so special. King Jewelers strives to continue its legacy of providing custom and unique pieces for the sole purpose of making pieces that are specific to its client.

Zenith now available at King Jewelers

It is official! Zenith has found a home at King Jewelers Aventura! When you compare the rich heritage of Zenith and the unwavering integrity of the King brand within the jewelry business, there’s really no surprise in the business to business relationship between the two.

Zenith SA is a high-end luxury Swiss watch manufacture started in 1865 by Georges Favre-Jacot at the age of 22, in Le Locle in the canton of Neuchâtel. Zenith has a long reputation for the quality and precision of their watches, with 1,565 1st-place precision awards to date. It is one of few remaining Swiss watch manufacturers that still produce their own movements in-house. The El Primero calibre, which was first released in 1969, though still produced today, was one of the first automatic chronograph movements and has a frequency of 36,000 alternations per hour (5 Hz). This high rate allows a resolution of 1/10 of a second and a potential for greater positional accuracy over the more common standard frequency of 28,800 alternations per hour (4 Hz). The El Primero was honoured with a 2012 release of the El Primero Stratos Flyback Striking 10th, limited to 1,969 pieces (in honour of the original 1969 release date), that housed the same 36,000 vph movement and a sub-dial measuring in tenths of a second to make a complete rotation every ten seconds.
