Best of the Best at the 2015 Oscars

Best Jewelry Oscars 2015: Statement Necklaces, Bold Earrings, Diamonds and Gems Sparkle

The 87th Annual Academy Awards on February 22 gathered Hollywood’s biggest celebrities for one of the biggest nights of the awards season. It’s clear that statement necklaces took home the win for the best and biggest jewelry trend at the star-studded event. This had to be one of the best years for jewelry on the Oscars Red Carpet. Bold earrings and sparking ear cuffs turned out to be just the opening act for the big bold statement necklaces that followed.

Gemstone and pearl pieces stood out from the pack, and many celebrities opted to allow for their jewelry to do all the talking. From classic to more edgy looks, statement necklaces continue to leave their mark on the Oscars red carpet.  Other earring statements were Julianne Moore in Chopard earrings, Dakota Johnson in Forevermark Diamonds earrings – all available at King Jewelers. Moore’s 28ct diamond earrings are available now at King Jewelers for $69,000.

“It’s exciting to see so much statement jewelry on the Oscars red carpet this year. As jewelers, we love it when these pieces get so much attention. This year, it seems fashion designers are noticing the trend towards large necklaces and are incorporating them onto their dresses.” ~ Maxine King, President, King Jewelers

Statement necklaces took home the win for the best and the biggest jewelry trend, from King Jewelers Private Collection. Pairing a bold piece of jewelry with a simple black dress is the best way to set yourself apart from the rest of the crowd. Some of the most memorable celebrity fashion moments in history have been founded on this principle- remember Angelina Jolie’s classic black dress & bold Emerald Earring combination? Of course you do- it’s her most sought after look! Or Audrey Hepburn’s classic black dress and dramatic pearl combination? Timeless!
But make no mistake, it wasn’t just the ladies who blew us away on this year’s red carpet! Winner of Best Actor in a Leading Role, Eddie Redmayne, walked the red carpet wearing Chopard’s L.U.C XPS watch set in platinum with a black leather band. Retail price $25,650, available now at King Jewelers.

King Jewelers Takes On GnashVegas

Gnashvegas 2015

Leaving GnashVegas!

On Sunday, February 15th, fans of the Nashville Predators hockey team, the number one seat in the NHL, were able to drink, dine, gamble, and mingle with players, all in the name of charity.
It may have been cold outside, but inside over the Bridgestone Arena ice everyone was looking white hot! The winter weather warning threatened to put a damper on the night’s festivities, but the evening went off without a hitch, and everyone was home safely before Nashville’s “Ice Apocalypse” really kicked in.
GnashVegas Casino Night
The 5th annual GnashVegas Casino Night and Auction was a huge success, just as it’s been in years past, raising thousands of dollars for hundreds of non-profit organizations in Nashville. Attendees at this year’s event were able to brows our extensive collection of IWC timepieces in between conversations with their favorite hockey players.
Wives and Girlfriends GnashVegas
King Jewelers decided to show a little love to the less appreciated members of the franchise- wives and girlfriends of Predator’s players and staff members were loaned diamond jewelry of their choosing to wear during the big night.

Alpina Auction Donation GnashVegas

We also contributed to the wide variety of charity auction items- which included a set of signed hockey jerseys among other rarities. A $2,500 Stainless Steel Alpina GMT, perfect for the traveling sportsman, was donated to the auction with all sale proceeds going to non-profits.
We look forward to continuing our partnership with the Nashville Predators throughout this winning season and onward in the future, and we’re proud to contribute to worthy causes such as this one. For more information, visit the Nashville Predators website. See more photos from the evening below, and be sure to check out our Facebook Page for information on all of our upcoming events!

Exceptional Forevermark Diamonds

forevermark_exceptional_diamond
As we’ve mentioned in the past, Forevermark diamond jewelry is sold in more than 1,300 stores worldwide. Forevermark Exceptional Diamonds are sold at only 10 jewelers, with 12 locations in the United States. Here at King Jewelers, we are proud to be the 8th company globally to be authorized to carry these stones.
King Jewelers is especially lucky to be able to say that we have not one, but three Exceptional Diamonds left in stock- two loose stones in FL, and one set in a mounting in TN.
Exceptional Diamonds are truly the best diamonds that Forevermark has ever offered. Not only are they all responsibly sourced (as are all Forevermark stones,) but they have the strictest standards as far as color, clarity, and carat weight.
For every one half million diamonds that the De Beers Group mines, only one qualifies as an Exceptional stone. All Exceptional Diamonds are typically at least 5.00ct in size when they are fully polished.
Each Exceptional Diamond is accompanied by a bound book detailing your diamond’s specific journey. It features key dates in the diamond’s life, the rough and polished carat weights, and photographs of the diamond as it evolved from rough to polished. Each Exceptional Diamond also comes with a silicon mold of the diamond in its rough form, a travel pouch, a grading report, a Forevermark identification card, and the Forevermark Promise booklet.
The Hope Diamond, The Krupp Diamond, The Taylor-Burton Diamond… Every diamond in history worth knowing about has had a name, and the Exceptional Diamonds from Forevermark are no different. Upon purchase, buyers are asked to choose a name to be associated with their stone. Forevermark suggests choosing a family name, as a stone of this size will no doubt be kept in the family to be passed on for many generations.
The individualized internal engraving, as seen in all Forevermark diamonds, is different with these stones, too. They are comprised of the year they were found in, the rough cut carat weight, and the final carat weight.

The 6.53ct Emerald Cut Exceptional Forevermark Diamond is set in a platinum mounting with a total diamond weight of 7.25ct

Alternative Wedding Style- When White Isn't Right

No two people will have the same view of the picture perfect wedding. While a traditional ceremony (complete with a poofy princess gown and an abundance of springtime flowers) might be the type of wedding we see most often in style blogs and magazines, it is by no means the only kind of affair you should be looking at for style inspiration. After all, if we all focused on the same type of wedding for inspiration, pretty soon all of our big day’s would look the same- and where’s the fun in that?

Dark Romanticism- Inspiration from Poetry and the Gothic Period

Edgar Allen Poe is generally not the first name that comes to mind when one begins to think of romantic poets. However, his poem “Annabel Lee,” which is said to have been written about his real life love interest, features equal measures of darkness and hope in regards to romance. The subjects in the poem share a love that is so pure and joyful, that the angels in heaven kill Annabel Lee out of jealousy. Even after her death, the speaker in the poem continues to feel abundant love for Annabel Lee.

"But our love it was stronger by far than the love
Of those who were older than we--
Of many far wiser than we--
And neither the angels in heaven above,
Nor the demons down under the sea,
Can ever dissever my soul from the soul
   Of the beautiful Annabel Lee"
Edgar Allen Poe

The subject may be dark, but is it really any darker than ’till death do we part’? It actually seems more heartfelt: even after death has parted them, the lovers souls cannot be parted. To some, it’s shocking to imagine a gothic wedding- dresses are often not white, flower crowns are often nowhere in sight, and the venues can border on creepy. But clearly, gothic poetry from greats such as Poe prove that the gothic concept has an underlying thread of commitment, even in the face of overwhelming tragedy. That theme does in fact apply to marriage, and can easily be tied into your big day.

So You’re Not Wearing White to Your Wedding

NFocus Magazine's Gothic Wedding
NFocus Magazine’s January 2015 “Into the Woods” photo shoot featuring King Jewelers jewelry

The concept of colored wedding dresses is by no means revolutionary. For years, more and more designers have been featuring wedding dresses that deviate from the traditional white color scheme. Within the last year especially, some of the most popular wedding dresses have been in shades of pink, champagne, mint, and blue. In this modern age, many brides have steered clear of pure white gowns due to the virginal, innocent symbolism they have traditionally been associated with.
Some cultures avoid white wedding dresses altogether. Chinese, Indian, Vietnamese, and Taiwanese brides have all been known to choose vibrant red dresses. Red is thought to bring good luck and prosperity to their union.
Suffice to say, choosing to wear a colored wedding gown is not necessarily as horrifying a concept as your grandmother may have you believe. In Gothic weddings, we tend to see dresses in shades of black, purple, and red more predominantly than any other color. This can broaden your options, as you can choose from a wide variety of evening gowns instead of just being limited to bridal designers who are willing to incorporate color into their creations.

But What About the Venue?

This is perhaps the most visually appealing aspect of a Gothic wedding. Think old castles, churches, manors, and theaters that are loaded with Victorian charm. As these venues are often old, they tend to be drenched in history- creating an instant conversation piece amongst your guests. These spots are especially stunning in the winter, when the trees are bare and lend an air of quiet mystery to the whole affair.
It may not be for you, and that’s ok! Gothic weddings are still an extremely interesting source of unique wedding inspiration that is ever-evolving.

Gemstones Promote Health and Wellness

Throughout history, different gemstones have been used for a multitude of purposes. While we traditionally only think of them as aesthetic complements to our accessories, gemstones have also been rumored to possess healing properties, promoting good health and wellness. It may sound a bit crazy, but wouldn’t it be nice if your most beautiful pieces of jewelry could also improve your lifestyle?
We’ve gathered some of our most popular gemstones and their rumored healing abilities to let you decide for yourself- is it possible? Or is a gemstone, just a gemstone?

Emerald: This stone is said to focus your mind- it can help with memory loss and clear your mind so that you can stay focused on the task at hand.

Sapphire: This stone is said to purify your emotions- it can promote positive thinking, create inner peace, and erase negativity from your life.

Ruby: This stone is said to stabilize your emotions- it can amplify your energy. It is also used to treat health issues of the blood, like anemia and bad circulation.

Amethyst: This stone is said to promote positive change in your life- it can boost your spirituality, relieve depression, and make your dreams more realistic. Amethyst is sometimes also used to relieve stress and symptoms of addiction.

Diamond: This stone is said to amp up the properties of any gemstone near it. If you wear it next to an emerald, for example, it can hyper-focus your thought process.

Turquoise: This stone is said to be full of healing properties- it can bring you happiness, good luck, and possibly even new friendships.
We don’t necessarily put a lot of stock into this whole thing, but it’s an interesting concept nonetheless. What are your thoughts? Is your favorite necklace going to bring light and love into your life?? Or is a gemstone just a beautiful rock that brightens your day?

Earrings to Make Your Eyes Pop

Using Jewelry to Accentuate Your Natural Beauty

Just like you, we look to celebrities for style inspiration and for new twists on old favorites. Whenever you’re choosing a look for a big event (or even for your everyday style) it’s important to make sure that your outfit doesn’t detract from your face! This is especially important with statement earrings, which can easily overwhelm the eye if they’re not chosen correctly. These celebs (and their stylists) understand the delicate balance between bold and too bold, and use earrings that make their eyes pop!

Enchanting Emerald for Green Eyes

Emerald earring sales skyrocketed after Angelina Jolie wore a pair of stunning 115 carat drops to the 2009 Oscars. The association is so cemented in the minds of consumers that when one searches “emerald earrings” on Google, her name and photo immediately pop up. Angie’s stylist clearly knew what they were doing- the emerald green combined with a natural style of makeup made her eyes pop. In addition she wore almost no other jewelry to the event and her dress was a simple black number- nothing tried to compete with the earrings. At the 2010 Vanity Fair Oscar Party, Emma Stone took a similar approach. She also wore black (let the emeralds shine!) but paired it with fiery red lipstick.
So, Green Eyed Goddesses, throw on your best little black dress, keep your makeup natural, and add some emerald statement earrings to make your eyes pop!

Stunning Sapphire for Brown Eyes

Perhaps the most popular gemstone besides diamond, sapphires are many women’s choice for both everyday looks and special nights out. We’ve all been taught that brown makes blue pop, and vice versa, so it’s no surprise that many brown-eyed celebs turn to blue sapphire statement earrings at big events. Tina Fey wore gorgeous sapphire chandelier earrings at the 2012 Oscars, and Anne Hathaway opted for refined elegance in diamond and sapphire earrings at the 2009 Golden Globes.
So, Brown Eyed Bombshells, throw on your best navy number, keep your makeup natural, and add some sapphire stunners to really make your eyes pop!

Terrific Turquoise for Blue Eyes

Turquoise has always been a color that just jumps off the page- whether you pair it with basic black (like Reese did at the 2012 White House Correspondent’s Dinner) or sunny yellow (like Blake did at the 2012 Savages premier in New York), it’s a bold and beautiful statement piece. Women with blue eyes should utilize the power of this hue- it will bring out the lighter shades in your eyes and really make them stand out. It doesn’t matter if you have a pair of genuine turquoise earrings, or just a pair with turquoise coloring (like Reese’s emerald and opal drops), the finished product will look phenomenal.
So, Blue Eyed Beauties, keep your makeup natural and add a touch of turquoise to your ensemble for a look that’s sure to blow them away.

Smart Jewelry Tips for a Successful Destination Wedding

There are many perks to having a destination wedding – the oftentimes exotic atmosphere creates unforgettable pictures for you and your groom, while your guests essentially get to take a vacation just to attend your wedding. Still, brides (and bridesmaids, for that matter) are often weary of what jewelry they should wear to such an event – and rightly so!

Prepare for Worst Case Jewelry Scenarios

Any number of things can happen to your jewelry when you travel – the airport can lose your luggage, it could get stolen out of your hotel room, you could unwittingly lose an earring on the beach and never see it again… the possibilities are endless and stressful!
Where the wedding is being held will greatly impact what kind of jewelry you should bring with you. For example, you probably wouldn’t wear the same jewelry to a beach soiree in Fiji that you’d wear to a black tie event in Paris.

Smart Destination Wedding Jewelry Tips

For beach affairs, we recommend leaving the diamonds locked up in your safe at home. Stick with more basic staples- pearls, for example, or a delicate gold pendant, with plain gold studs and a bangle bracelet. For a black tie affair, bring the diamonds – but make an effort to keep them on you at all times. Bring along a classic diamond pendant and earring set which you can easily dress up or down and wear them for the duration of your stay. If that’s not possible, make sure you don’t ever check it in with your airport luggage – keep it within arm’s reach in your handbag or carry-on.
Some brides have taken caution to the next level by keeping a set of costume jewelry specifically for travel. A set of CZ studs are very affordable, and you’ll be thankful you brought them  instead of your real gems if they end up lost or damaged.
Destination weddings are unforgettable experiences. You will come home with memories that will last a lifetime. Be smart with your jewelry, and you will avoid an unnecessary negative experience. Happy travels!
