King Jewelers Announces Roger Dubuis Expansion Via Collector’s Dinner at Quality Meats, Miami

Watchmaker Roger Dubuis was in Miami this past week to celebrate the twentieth anniversary of the founding of the Geneva-based watchmaking company that bears his name with south Florida’s leading authorized watch dealer, King Jewelers, Aventura.
The renowned watchmaker visited exclusively with King Jewelers watch collectors as they premiered King’s expansion in Miami. He discussed his role as the “soul” of Roger Dubuis within the company today offering advice as he presented some of the world’s finest horology timepieces and his latest collection. Dubuis simply relates that he had decades of experience (much of it with Patek Philippe) before he started his eponymous firm.
“I have two objectives tonight,” said Mr. Dubuis, “To represent the brand, to transmit my knowledge, life-long passion, and craftsmanship to our valued King Jewelers collectors. I enjoy sharing my work with them and love seeing clients wearing my works of art.”

When Roger Dubuis began creating his first design for his then-new company 20 years ago, he immediately wanted to honor all those watchmakers from whom he learned his craft.
“I created Hommage as the first collection of the manufacture to honor all the people along the way who had taught me, given me inspiration and advice.” Dubuis cites Hommage and the firm’s Velvet collection, for the ladies, as two of his favorite recent designs.

“I can say that the Velvet design is one of my favorites because it’s one of the most incredible cases for us. It’s a timepiece that brings much emotion to me in part because of the tonneau/round shape and also because there is much that can be done with the shape. Its proportions are fantastic, it’s very feminine, the geometry of the case in a ladies watch can be constraining, so when a designer comes up with one that works, you have to stop into King Jewelers store and look at it. First Look at the Roger Dubuis Excalibur Automatic Skeleton

We have long been fans of Roger Dubuis timepieces- the Pulsion Chronograph was among our favorite dive watches of summer 2014- and the brand is expected to reveal an exciting new addition to their Excalibur lineup at SIHH 2015 in Geneva.

The star motif is featured multiple times throughout the dial, but nowhere is it so predominate as in the bottom right corner. We think it’s a nice update to the traditional Roger Dubuis skeletal dials, and adds a touch of extra character to the watch as a whole. We’re also loving the contrast of the steel skeleton with the rose gold hands and case.

Perhaps our favorite part about this fabulous new timepiece though, is the fact that it’s a little bit more “back to basics” than some of Dubuis’ other statement pieces. Though it is a skeleton, it doesn’t have much else cluttering the dial: just two sleek rose gold hands to tell you the time. And really, what is the watchmaking industry all about, if not telling time in beautiful new ways?

SIHH 2013 Preview: Roger Dubuis Excalibur 36 Rose Gold Diamond Watch

If there’s one thing Roger Dubuis knows how to do, it’s making a dazzling women’s watch. This year for SIHH Roger Dubuis created a memorable and distinctly feminine watch that will be part of their Excalibur collection.
This watch is made of 18 karat rose gold and is set with 672 shining brilliant cut diamonds for an approximate total weight of 4.78 carats. The bezel alone is embellished by 48 diamonds and the rose gold Roman numerals are offset softly by a white dial. Beautiful as it may be, this watch still has the trademark clean design of Roger Dubuis with the stylized Roman numerals and 30 second sub-dial in the six o’clock position.

SIHH 2013 Preview: Roger Dubuis Excalibur 42 Squelette Watch

Yet another exciting watch that Roger Dubuis will be debuting for 2013 SIHH is the Excalibur 42 Tourbillon Squelette. Not much information has been released about this particular watch, but here is the details we do know. The Excalibur 42 new Excalibur 42 Squelette, the latest edition to the Excalibur 42 family, features a tourbillon and a skeleton dial. This look deviates slightly from the more familiar original Excalibur with double flying tourbillon, but none of the less the Excalibur 42 Squelette Watch is still one exquisite timepiece.

The new Excalibur 42 Squelette will come in a 42mm 18k rose gold bezel with the iconic fluted design. More rose gold can be found on the hour and minute hands as well as the 10 screws on the bezel that also double as the hour markers. The tourbillon movement is fitted in the 7 o’clock position. Through the sapphire crystal and the skeletonized dial you can see this watch is powered by the in-house RD505SQ movement. The Excalibur 42 Squelette is paired very nicely with a black alligator strap and matching rose gold buckle.

SIHH 2013 Preview: Roger Dubuis Excalibur Table Ronde Watch

To be unveiled during the 2013 SIHH, limited edition Excalibur Table Ronde watch from Roger Dubuis is certain to make an impression. Inspired by what is likely the most well-known literary tale of today, King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. This legendary timepiece features 12 highly detailed knights that are slightly different from each other and made of 18k rose gold with swords as hour markers. The knights are placed neatly around an enamel dial that also features a hand painted replica of the Winchester Round Table that hangs in Winchester, England.

The original table was created in 1552 and was made to impress the Emperor Charles V during his visit. Although the table is not the actual image of the Winchester Round Table, Roger Dubuis does replicate a very nice representation that even includes old English written names of the knights as well as the Tudor rose in the center.

The case is also made of 18k rose gold and measures 45mm in diameter. Inside this magnificent case houses an automatic mechanical RD822 movement. It is also paired nicely with a black crocodile leather strap. Roger Dubuis is expected to release only 88 pieces.

Roger Dubuis Introduces the New Action Inspired Pulsion Watch Collection

Earlier this year Roger Dubuis had began a new series of unique timepieces that characterizes itself by representing its individual world that it derives from. There is a collection called the Excalibur collection which represents a universe of knights and dragons. For the casino aficionado there is the Monegasque collection that represents the games of the powerful intellectuals. For the ladies they have recreated a fairytale world turned dark and ominous with hidden secrets and mysteries which is represented very well by the Velvet collection.

Recently Roger Dubuis introduced the Pulsion. The Pulsion represents a new action packed world of lasers, spies, and thrilling heists. This is the timepiece that pushes its design elements and experiments very well with its structure and material. One of the first thing you will notice in this collection that truly distinguishes itself is the unique sapphire crystal. It is screwed down and extends over the sides of the case to serve as the bezel as well. The case is still water resistant up to 100 meters and the numerals are easy to read and seem to be engraved underneath the crystal and enhanced with a luminescent material.

The 44mm wide Pulsion conforms very nicely to your wrist with the comfortable rubber strap. Although there does not seem to be a metal bracelet option, the rubber straps are uniquely offered in alternating finishes. The Pulsion case itself it offered in a titanium version and a 18k rose gold option. There are a total of 2 different versions of the Pulsion with different movements currently being offered for 2012. Two of which contain the very well known super skeletonized caliber RD505SQ which is a manually wound flying tourbillon movement and the other two containing the standard chronograph movement RD680 which can also be found in other models such as the Monegasque. The chronograph Pulsion will be available in three models with two in titanium (one with black DLC coating) and the third in 18k rose gold. Both of these movements are bare the Seal of Geneva and are COSC certified.

Prestigious Poinçon de Genève Seal Updates Criteria for Watch Manufactures

Most people may know that some of the finest watches made are produced in Switzerland. Geneva is Switzerland’s second most populated city and is also the city that has created one of the highest standards in horology. There are over 20 million watches produced in Switzerland each year, but only 24,000 have the standards of The Poinçon de Genève.
The Poinçon de Genève which translates to “The Punch of Geneva” is used as a hallmark stamp to signify a certification earned by watch manufacturers. It’s a seal of approval to rigorous criterias and standards such as manual decoration of the watch components and committing to performing the assembly and adjustment of their timepieces exclusively in Geneva. This is a certification and a seal that guarantees the quality of the work performed.

The Poinçon de Genève recently has updated their criteria that a watch manufacturer must follow in order to get the certification. The new interior movement and exterior aesthetic regulation has 12 criterias that includes 7 conception criteria and 5 aesthetic criterias. These specific criterias include precise specifications on the origin of the parts, construction, materials, and even the finishing. The new aesthetic criteria demands standards such as; steel parts must feature polished angles, sides drawn out with a file and visible surfaces smoothed down, wheels must be chamfered with polished sinks, screw heads must be polished with their slots and rims chamfered. All of the criteria seems very precise and strict. Even the nature of the stud serving to pin up the balance-spring is regulated.

There are also updates to the performance criteria as well. The new regulations must follow a 7 day watch control. These series of tests include water resistance, power reserve, functions, and chronometry.

Scott King’s Personal Watch Feature: Roger Dubuis Much More Perpetual Calendar

While Scott attended FSU for college, his heart was always at home with the Miami Hurricanes, thus explaining his love for the color orange. I remember the day that my father received this special timepiece. We were at the watch fair in Geneva where he immediately fell in love with the Much More collection at an SIHH show. Upon being handed the watch, it was love at first sight. Scott couldn’t wait until after the show to get this watch, he needed instant gratification that day and managed to convince Carlos Dias, then owner and designer of Roger Dubuis, to let him leave with the watch on his wrist. This happened to be the year when Roger Dubuis launched the Follow Me collection which was simply revolutionary at the time and paid true homage to Swiss watchmaking.
That evening, we all joined the Roger Dubuis team for an elegant dinner in Geneva. During the course of dinner, my father asked Mr. Dias how he came up with the inspirations for all of his watch collections, to which he replied: “First, I created the Hommage to pay my respects to our Swiss heritage, then I gave people my Sympathie, next was Much More, then Too Much, and now they can all Follow Me.” Here are some additional details on Scott’s favorite Roger Dubuis watch:

SIHH 2012 Spotlight: Roger Dubuis Pulsion Flying Tourbillon

After an exciting week in watch developments, the 2012 SIHH will be drawing to a close at 8:30 this evening in Geneva. Our last spotlight is going to be on the new Pulsion collection from Roger Dubuis, in particular the beautiful new Flying Tourbillon Skeleton in titanium. Besides the flying tourbillon that Roger Dubuis always excels at, one of the most unique features about this watch is that the crystal is screwed directly into the case and doubles as a bezel. The Arabic numerals have also been engraved directly under the crystal and filled with a luminescent material. It’s the most multi-taksing crystal we’ve ever seen.
This watch combines two of Roger Dubuis trademarks, the contemporary flying skeleton movement and the differential flying tourbillon. The highly complicated and modern Pulsion collection was designed to fit into the theme of the “adventurer.” Like all of Roger Dubuis’ watches, the movement for this watch is marked with the “Poinçon de Genève” which certifies that the watch meets up to rigid standards of operation and that the movement has been created by hand.
