Background Story

The story behind the creation of the Pilot’s Watch Mark XVIII began with the selection of the most iconic models in IWC history. Hodinkee decided to fuse together the vintage design of the Mark II, with the size and blacked-out case of the 3705 Fliegerchronograph. In brief, Hodinkee drew inspiration from these two highly sought after pieces and married them to the current Mark XVIII. As a result, the Pilot’s Watch Mark XVIII Edition “Hodinkee” was born.

About the Watch

This impressive tool watch depicts a clean design with painted white Arabic numerals. To illustrate, luminescent stick indexes rest at three, six and nine o’clock along with the traditional triangle at 12 o’clock. Moreover, these vintage-style IWC details remind us of the brand’s original tool watches. Measuring 39mm, we also discover an all black Ceratanium® case and bezel. This titanium alloy contains zirconium oxide which hardens into ceramic throughout the metal when paired with heat. Additionally, the matte-black color it leaves behind bestows the timepiece with a contemporary element. Ceratanium® helps the watch to remain lightweight like titanium, as well as, scratch resistant and durable like ceramic. With no date feature, this watch is actuated by the IWC automatic caliber 35100. On a calfskin, olive green strap with a Ceratanium® buckle, we admire a case back revealing special engravings, the limited edition number, and the word “HODINKEE.”
