Romantic Movies to Put You in the Mood for Love

Make Date Night Special with Films About Love

Love is in the air as Valentine’s Day is right around the corner! It’s the season of red roses, chocolates, teddy bears, and a seemingly endless list of classic romantic movies to watch (whether you watch with your special someone or with a group of your girlfriends is entirely up to you!)

With Valentine’s Day just a mere eleven days away, it’s the perfect time to grab some popcorn, a good bottle of wine, and maybe a few tissues, before revisiting your favorite love stories from the silver screen. We’ve put together a list of some of our own personal favorites that are sure to leave you with plenty of inspiration for your own grand romantic gesture this February 14th!

The Notebook

Ok, yes, when you mention this particular film to your significant other, you might get an eye-roll, but no one can deny that this romantic Nicholas Sparks story was an instant classic. When Noah and Allie finally reunite after being apart for so long, kissing passionately in the pouring rain, it’s impossible for your heart not to swell with the music.

Pretty Woman

This rags to riches story about a down on her luck prostitute who finds true love with a wealthy businessman features Julia Roberts in one of her most memorable roles. Funny, sexy, and full of classic quote-along moments, this is the perfect movie for a quiet night in with your best friends. While their love story occasionally hits a rough patch, it all comes together when Edward arrives at Vivian’s house in a white limo with roses and beautiful music, before braving his fear of heights to climb up to her balcony and give her the happily-ever-after moment she’s always wanted.

When Harry Met Sally

Meg Ryan was a major leading lady in some of the best romantic comedies of the 90s (remember our honorable mentions, Sleepless in Seattle and You’ve Got Mail?) but our favorite has always been her turn as Sally in 1989’s When Harry Met Sally. This hilarious 1989 film aims to answer the most basic of questions: can men and women ever really be friends? Watch the couple evolve over the course of a decade of acquaintanceship, friendship, and finally, love. Maybe it’s Billy Crystal’s somewhat unexpected role as a romantic lead, but friends and partners who haven’t watched it are always surprised by this choice. Trust us- it’s one your boyfriend won’t mind watching and your girlfriends will always be able to relate to.

Silver Linings Playbook

Drama, dancing, and dysfunctional families collide in this darkly funny movie featuring Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper. Our favorite moment features Pat (Cooper) declaring his love for Tiffany (Lawrence). “I love you. I knew it the minute I met you. I’m sorry it took so long for me to catch up, I just got stuck.” Nothing is quite as endearing as a man wearing his heart on his sleeve.

So what are your favorite romantic movies? Do these films inspire you to make a big gesture to express your love this Valentine’s Day? Let us know!
