SIHH 2013 Preview: Calibre de Cartier Chronograph Watch

The holidays may be over, but we’re moving toward one of our favorite times of the year, the Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie (SIHH) which will take place on January 21st – 25th. This is the time that some of our favorite watch brands showcase their most innovative watch designs for 2013. Already, a few sneak peeks of these spectacular watches have started to surface.

This year at SIHH Cartier is finally revealing a version of its famous Calibre collection with a chronograph movement. The Calibre watches, known for their distinct enlarged Roman numeral 12, are a modern take on an infinitely classic design. This watch in particular is true to its regal roots with the pleasantly sporty addition of the chronograph function.

The large seconds sub-dial on the original Cartier Calibre watches has seamlessly transitioned into a date display, counterbalanced by the two sub-dial chronograph display above. To start, this new entry-level chronograph will be available in rose gold with a leather strap, or stainless steel with a bracelet.

The Calibre also proudly boasts holding Cartier’s in-house movement, the 1904CH MC, in a 42mm diameter case. This is the same movement that was in the Calibre collection when it was first released two years ago. This is an automatic movement with a column wheel-based chrongraph running at 4Hz with a sapphire crystal exhibition case back to show off that Cotes de Geneve finishing (a decoration of undulating lines on a watch movement).
