The TAG Heuer Monaco is Breaking Bad

The TAG Heuer Monaco was spotted on a recent episode of the popular series Breaking Bad. On its fourth episode of season 5, TAG Heuer had provided the show with the Monaco watch to be placed throughout the show. In this episode character Jesse (actor Aaron Paul) gifts Walter (actor Bryan Cranston) a present for his 51st birthday. As Walt sits in his car not knowing what’s in the box, he opens it to reveal the TAG Heuer Monaco. Up until this show Walt had always worn an inexpensive but reliable digital Casio. Quite an upgrade!

The specific watch that Walt was given was the iconic TAG Heuer Monaco Calibre 12 (ref# CAW211.FC6183). Very similar to the watch of the original version worn by Steve Mcqueen in 1969. Walt’s Monaco has the square steel 39mm wide case with the classy metallic blue dial. It is also paired perfectly with a dark crocodile band.

After all these years the Monaco still seems to look ahead of its time and classic at the same time. For Walt this watch was the nicest gift he had ever received for his birthday. Throughout the show he seems to handle and show the watch numerous time. Direct interaction by a character with a propped watch is typically very rare for television shows and films. Although the TAG Heuer logo was never directly shown the Monaco is such a distinctive watch and with the numerous shots of the watch on Walter it’s very difficult to confuse this watch with any other. The episode closes with a close up of the iconic Monaco. It is shown with the second hand moving in a way to communicate the message of limited time for the events following.
