In Honor of Its 280th Anniversary, Jaquet Droz Pays Introduces the Grande Seconde Tribute

Since its introduction back in 2002, the Grande Seconde wristwatch has become an iconic piece of the Jaquet Droz lineup. To celebrate their 280th anniversary, Jaquet Droz has released the Grande Second Tribute, limited to just 88 pieces and presented in an exclusive box. This marks the first time the brand offers a wristwatch version of this iconic timepiece in yellow gold.

The Grande Seconde Pocket Watch — The 1784 Grande Seconde pocket watch

The first Grande Seconde was created in pocket watch form by the founder of the brand, Pierre Jaquet-Droz in 1784. This year’s Grande Seconde Tribute clearly draws inspiration from that first pocket watch version, with a yellow gold case and timeless white dial with black Arabic and Roman numerals.

The Grande Seconde Tribute features a Caliber 2663 movement which is entirely hand-assembled, and is capable of almost three full days of power reserve (68 hours). The watch is resistant to magnetic fields and temperature variations thanks to a silicon escapement. The watch is decorated with traditional hand guilloche and the brand’s two symbolic stars. The starts represent the Jaquet-Droz father and son, and are unique to the Grande Seconde Tribute.

They were all the rage in the 80s- Cartier’s Panthere de Cartier timepieces embodied sophistication and fashion-forward style. This month, Cartier reintroduced the iconic style to their collection in a multitude of variations, some of which are already available at our Nashville, Tennessee store in the Green Hills area. We all know that fashion is cyclical- everything comes back into style eventually- and the 80s style of the Panthere de Cartier is most definitely in.
Starting at just $4,000 for the small steel model, the Panthere de Cartier makes the perfect gift for that special woman in your life. These quartz timepieces keep excellent time, and the bracelet design is extremely comfortable for everyday wear. These watches are available in both a traditional small (22mm x 30mm) and a fashion-forward medium (27mm x 37mm) size.

All in all, the Cartier Panthere de Cartier timepiece proves that retro can be cool, and is yet another must-have watch in the Cartier timepiece lineup.
Although marketing materials frequently show this watch in and around the water (for example, in the bathtub and the pool) we don’t ever recommend submerging a watch without a screw-down crown into the water. A screw-down crown effectively locks the case so that water, which can severely damage your watch’s internal parts, can’t leak in. A standard push-crown (like the ones on these new Cartier timepieces) do not protect the case with the same level of security, and these watches rely mostly on seals to prevent leaks. Unfortunately, these seals will eventually wear out, leaving your watch susceptible to water damage. They can be repaired during a routine servicing.

TUDOR Reveals 4 New Variations of the Ever-Popular Heritage Black Bay Timepiece at Baselworld 2017

Early this morning, watch afficionados were glued to their smartphones and computer screens as Switzerland’s most prestigious watch brands began releasing their new timepieces for Baselworld 2017. TUDOR, sister brand to Rolex, certainly didn’t disappoint, surprising fans with 4 new variations of their extremely popular Heritage Black Bay timepiece.

TUDOR Heritage Black Bay Chronograph

The first, and arguably most exciting, announcement from TUDOR this morning was the addition of a chronograph to the Black Bay lineup. The 41mm steel Black Bay Chronograph has the first in-house chronograph movement (Manufacture Calibre MT5813, COSC) from TUDOR, so it’s sure to become a collectors item in the future. The watch will be available either on a riveted steel bracelet ($5,050) or a brown leather strap ($4,725) and each variation will come with TUDOR’s signature additional fabric strap, as shown in the above photo.

TUDOR Heritage Black Bay 41

At Baselworld 2017, TUDOR builds off the popularity of their newly released 36mm unisex Black Bay model by offering the same slimmer case and simpler design by offering the same aesthetic in a larger 41mm mode. This version of the Black Bay should appeal to the more business-orientated man, and at just $2,950 it makes the perfect graduation gift.

To appeal to a wider audience, TUDOR is now offering their classic Black Bay in a steel and gold (hence, S&G) variation. The new S&G model also features a date window at the 3 o’clock position, another new feature for the Black Bay. The Black Bay S&G will be available on a two-tone bracelet ($4,975), as shown in the image above, or on an aged black leather strap ($3,775).

The final new introduction in the Black Bay lineup unveiled at Baselworld 2017 is the Black Bay Steel, an all-steel version with a brushed steel bezel. Like the S&G model, this Black Bay also comes equipped with a new date display window at the 3 o’clock position. It will be available either on a steel bracelet ($3,800) or a distressed black leather strap ($3,475) and each variation comes with an additional green fabric strap, shown in the above photo.

David King Picks His Favorite Timepieces from SIHH 2017

This year’s SIHH 2017 show in Geneva was nothing less than spectacular. The theme of the show was a balance of exceptional haute horology creations (the $1MM watch from Vacheron Constantin) with a strong focus on everyday, affordable luxury (Cartier reintroduced the Panther collection in steel that retails under $5,000).
In total, SIHH 2017 included a record 30 brands from leading manufactures like A.Lange & Söhne, Audemars Piguet, Baume & Mercier, Cartier, Girard-Perregaux, Greubel Forsey, IWC, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Montblanc, Panerai, Parmigiani, Piaget, Richard Mille, Roger Dubuis, Ulysse Nardin, Van Cleef & Arpels, and Vacheron Constantin, just to name a few.

Favorite Men’s World Time Watch: Jaeger-LeCoultre Geophysic Tourbillon Universal Time

This watch from Jaeger-LeCoultre marks the first time a flying tourbillon complication has been included on a world timer. The execution is elegant and the tourbillon complication is seamlessly integrated into the dial design . Price: $145,000

Favorite Collector Watch: Officine Panerai LAB-ID Luminor 1950 Carbotech 3 Days

Our favorite watch has minimalistic, cool blue dial accents that’s housed in a radical new material called “carbotech,” which is created through a process of fusing many layers of carbon under high pressure. Panerai is so confident in this new technology that this watch comes with a fifty year warranty. Wow! According to the brand, it’s lighter and more stress-resistant than titanium. The dial is made up of tiny black nanotubes, which absorb light and create the appearance of a black that is even darker than a normal black. There will be only 50 made for the world (so good luck acquiring one!) but this watch will be a superstar within any watch collection. Price: 50,000 CHF

Favorite Ladies Watch: Cartier Panthère de Cartier Spot Watch

The Panther is officially back. An icon in the watch world, the Panthère de Cartier watch collection was initially launched in 1983, and was in production all the way through the early 2000s when it was discontinued. For 2017, Cartier has reinstated the Panthère watch collection in two sizes, and nine metals and/or finishes.

The showstopper at the Geneva fair was this Cartier Panthère de Cartier Spot Watch in 18kt white gold with diamonds which is directly inspired by the spotted panther motif. This exceptional ladies timepieces was extensively explored by Cartier’s legendary and charismatic design director, Jeanne Toussaint.

Favorite Independent Watch Release: MB&F HM7 Aquapod Tourbillon Diving-Style Watch

Once again Max Busser rocks the world of haute horology with this bold and out-of-the-box tourbillon that is sure to turn some heads at the country club.

Collector’s Corner: Bell & Ross Reveals New BR-X1 Hyperstellar

Much to the delight of us all, Bell & Ross has unveiled a new BR-X1 chronograph, the BR-X1 Hyperstellar, which pays homage to man’s fascination with the beauty and mystery of outer space. This timepiece is a limited edition (only 250 will be released world-wide) so if you’re a Bell & Ross enthusiast and you’re lucky enough to find an authorized retailer that still has the BR-X1 Hyperstellar available, we’d suggest you jump on it!
The BR-X1 Hyperstellar has a BR-CAL.313 automatic mechanical movement contained within a 45mm titanium case with anodized blue aluminum and rubber inserts. The metal skeleton dial has luminescent indexes and hour and minute hands, while still allowing you to see right into the heart of the movement. Features include hour and minutes function, small seconds indicator at the 3 o’clock position, skeleton date window at the 6 o’clock position, and a chronograph function.

The chronograph features a 30-minute timer at the 9 o’clock position and central chronograph seconds. The scratch-resistant sapphire crystal is grey-tinted to match the overall cool tones of the timepiece. The caseback is also covered by tinted sapphire crystal which is centered on the balance. The strap is a combination of grey alligator leather and grey rubber with a steel and grey rubber pin buckle.

Hublot: The Official Watch of UEFA Euro 2016

In Honor of the 2016 UEFA Euro Tournament, We Highlight The Hublot Big Bang Unico Chronograph Retrograde UEFA Euro 2016

The final match of the 2016 UEFA Euro soccer (or football, if you live anywhere other than the United States) championship was held this Sunday. Portugal beat the home team, France, in a 1-0 upset victory. In honor of this show of athleticism, we’d like to talk about the official timepiece of the tournament, the Hublot Big Bang Unico Cristiano RonaldoRetrograde Chronograph UEFA Euro 2016 & UEFA Champions League limited edition men’s timepiece. This is Hublot’s 3rd year participating as official timepiece of the EURO, although Hublot has been an active participant in the football world since 2006.
