Jaquet Droz SW Chrono Côtes de Genève in Miami, Florida: A closer look at the sporty Jaquet Droz
This week on Collector’s Corner, we try on the beautiful Jaquet Droz SW Chrono Côtes de Genève at our Aventura location. Jaquet Droz are well known in developing instantly recognizable and respectable timepieces. Traditionally most of the aesthetics of their timepieces seem to be fit with classic and luxurious features while presenting signature dials. However the SW collection has pushed the boundaries of the modern and sporty segment of the brand. The SW Chronograph Côtes de Genève takes a step further and explores sporty design features by adding an extremely attractive blue alligator strap and a beautiful new blue dial. The new dial features the Côtes de Genève pattern in a striking bright blue color (Also available in Gray) while the rest of the watch utilizes subtle whites and stainless steel to maintain a strong masculine appeal. Also on the dial are two subdials that include a 30-minute chronograph counter at 3 o’clock and a 12-hour counter at 9 o’clock. The elegant double framed date can be found at it’s unique 12 o’clock position. The case is made of stainless steel and measures 45mm in diameter. The finely detailed crown and push buttons feature rubber cast much like the rest of the collection. This timepiece has a 40 hour power reserve utilizing the 6885-S, self-winding mechanical movement with ruthenium treatment, and a finely detailed 18kt white gold oscillating rotor. The JD logo engraved buckle is a strong and elegant stainless steel folding clasp that feels like a sports watch while giving a comfortable and snug fit. The SW Chronograph Côtes de Genève watch seems to still lean towards the luxury side which is maintains the brands perception has a horophiles collector piece.

We’re excited to announce the anticipated arrival of one of the hottest watch releases for 2016 in the under $5,000 watch category: TUDOR’s Black Bay Bronze timepiece. From the historical Heritage Black Bay family, the arrival of the new Heritage Black Bay Bronze marks a magnificent 43mm divers’ watch that was inspired by the brand’s history. The Black Bay Bronze is outfitted with a mechanical movement developed and produced in-house by TUDOR. In Honor of the 2016 UEFA Euro Tournament, We Highlight The Hublot Big Bang Unico Chronograph Retrograde UEFA Euro 2016
The final match of the 2016 UEFA Euro soccer (or football, if you live anywhere other than the United States) championship was held this Sunday. Portugal beat the home team, France, in a 1-0 upset victory. Collector’s Corner: Cartier Unveils New Blue Edition of Popular Calibre de Cartier Diver
This is the first entry of our new blog series, Collector’s Corner, where we’ll highlight the latest and greatest of the luxury Swiss watch world every week. Today, we’re kicking things off with the new Blue edition of the Calibre de Cartier Diver, available now in our Nashville salon. We’ve always been big fans of the Calibre de Cartier Diver. Whether you prefer the more classic look of the original editions, or the more striking new editions such as the ADLC coated steel and rose gold combination, it’s undeniable that the Calibre de Cartieris, to put it plainly, a beautiful watch. Cartier’s latest additions to the Calibre de Cartier Diver lineup deviate from the rest; while the dial and bezel of all prior Calibre de Cartier Diver models were black, the newest editions are blue. King Jewelers Nashville has two of these new blue editions in stock at the time of this posting: stainless steel and two-tone stainless steel and rose gold. As with prior models, the blue versions of the Calibre de Cartier Diver have self-winding mechanical movements contained within a 42mm case with a unidirectional rotating bezel. Features include a date display window and a small seconds subdial. They are covered by scratch-resistant sapphire crystal and feature a blue rubber strap. It’s that time of year again! As the official jeweler of the Nashville Predators hockey team, King Jewelers hosts the annual Gnashvegas Casino Night and Charity Auction at Bridgestone Arena in downtown Nashville. Bold Doesn’t Always Mean Hard to Wear!
Our favorite bold choice by Hublot is the Big Bang Unico Sapphire. This unique timepiece took a full four years to develop and it’s not hard to see why. The Unico Sapphire is completely transparent! It’s always a balance, finding a holiday gift that makes a statement without making a huge dent in your bank account. Oftentimes, we’re forced to hold back on what we’d like to give our loved ones due to a lack of funding, especially when it comes to expensive new technology. 2015 saw the rise of the smartwatch as Apple pioneered into the watch industry with their iWatch. Swiss watchmakers were not to be outdone, however, and this holiday season there are many smartwatches available, some starting at less than $1,000, from respected names in the watch industry. The gift of the season for the tech savvy gentleman? Any one of these smartwatches will do!
1. Frederique Constant Horological Smartwatch
Arguably the most budget-friendly Swiss made Smartwatch on the market today comes from Frederique Constant- their stainless steel model on a leather strap is available for just $995. The watch communicates with an app on your smartphone to set the time as you cross time zones, track your daily activity, and monitor your sleeping patterns. However, saving dollars does come at a price: the Frederique Constant Horological Smartwatch is essentially a discreet, good-looking fitness tracker which also conveniently tells the time; the timepiece will not give you notifications for incoming calls, texts, or emails and it doesn’t give you control over your music. Still, unlike the other watches on this list, the Frederique Constant Horological Smartwatch does not need to be charged on a regular basis- it is energy efficient and only needs to have it’s battery replaced once every 25 months or so, much like a traditional quartz movement watch. To many, this convenience is worth the trade-off in features. This piece also looks most like a traditional timepiece out of any smartwatch on our list; the analog display makes it impossible for someone to know that you’re wearing a fitness tracker unless you tell them. At the time of this publication, Frederique Constant offers this timepiece in five variations: silver dial with a steel bracelet (FC-285S5B6B), black dial with a steel bracelet (FC-285B5B6B), silver dial on a black leather strap (FC-285S5B6), black dial on a brown leather strap (FC-285B5B6), and white dial with rose case on a brown leather strap (FC-285V5B4). 2. Montblanc e-Strap
Technically a smart strap more-so than a smart watch, Montblanc’s entry into the smartwatch race is certainly unique! Unlike the other watches on this list, Montblanc’s wearable tech doesn’t change the standard mechanical movement at all; the watch itself is still a traditional, mechanical movement Swiss timepiece. Instead, the wearable technology is housed entirely in a small screen on the strap which connects via Bluetooth technology to an app on your Android or iOS smartphone. This e-Strap is interchangeable and can technically be used in conjuncture with any mechanical watch in your collection, providing it fits! The e-Strap has a variety of functions, including smart notifications signaled by vibrations (for things like texts, emails, incoming calls, and social media notifications), an activity tracker, control of your music, camera connectivity, and a find-me function which can help you find your phone or your watch if it’s lost and within 30 meters of your location. At the moment, Montblanc offers the e-Strap on three timepieces: Timewalker Urban Speed Date ($3,140), Timewalker Urban Speed UTC ($4,200), and the Timewalker Urban Speed Chronograph ($4,900). 3. TAG Heuer Connected Smartwatch
The TAG Heuer Connected Smartwatch is not yet available in stores. Upon it’s release, customers may purchase the watch on a black, blue, white, red, green, yellow, or orange rubber strap- talk about options! The hype around the new TAG Heuer Connected Smartwatch has been huge, and for good reason! Compatible with both Android and iOS, the TAG Heuer Connected Smartwatch features touch-screen technology with the option to choose your “dial” from a list of existing TAG Heuer watch dials in a variety of colors. Need a chronograph function? Simply choose the chronograph dial. Traveling across multiple time zones and need the convenience of a GMT? Select the GMT dial! Something that really sets TAG Heuer apart from the rest of the smartwatches out there is their upgrade program. In two years, for an additional fee, you have the option of sending your Connected smartwatch to TAG Heuer to have the Android-based technology switched out for a traditional mechanical movement. This program completely erases any possibility of you being stuck with an out of date, unusable piece of technology. I have a generation 1 iPad, now affectionately referred to as a useless hunk of junk, collecting dust at home and I would hate to spend money on a luxury timepiece only to end up with yet another paperweight when the technology becomes obsolete! The TAG Heuer Smartwatch unfortunately won’t be available in authorized retailers until January, so unless you’re giving someone the promise of a luxury Swiss-made smartwatch this Christmas, you won’t be able to have one wrapped under your tree. Last we heard, Connected Smartwatches purchased directly through TAG Heuer’s website (available on a black strap only) may not make it in time for Christmas delivery as demand has been so incredibly high. With a price tag of just $1,500, this one is definitely worth the wait!
Bell & Ross Reveals New Limited Edition of 250 Pieces
Bell & Ross has impressed us yet again! The BR-X1 line, revealed back in 2014, brought us an entire collection filled with sporty, high-tech chronographs which somehow managed to be both sophisticated and bulky. Now they’ve introduced the BR-X1: Carbone Forgé, a revolutionary timepiece which utilizes compressed carbon fibers to create a deep black, non-porous, water-resistant, single-unit case with clean edges. The square case is lined with a ceramic and rubber “bumper” which will help protect the watch from impact damage. As with most Bell & Ross timepieces, the back of the BR-X1- made from grade 5 PVD titanium- features a small, round opening which reveals the beating heart of the balance. Made from grey-tinted sapphire crystal and featuring appliqué metal indicators with photo-luminescent inserts, the dial forms a clear window through which the exceptional movement can be admired. The faceted, Superluminova-filled hands and appliqué indicators offer easy legibility.
The central hour and minute hands are read traditionally, while the small seconds hand is positioned at 3 o’clock. The skeleton date dial is positioned at 6 o’clock. Instead of a hand, the minute timer on the chronograph function features an ultra-light aluminum disc resembling the blades of a turbine. The hand on the central second counter indicates quarters of a second. Essential for calculating speeds, the tachymeter scale appears on the flange. The chronograph hands feature subtle red accents. The grooved rubber strap has a black PVD steel buckle.
