Chopard’s New Releases at Baselworld 2011

Apr 05, 2011

Chopard, one of the leading names in high jewelry and haute horologie, celebrated their 150th anniversary last year. With no signs of slowing down, this innovative company released several exciting new watch designs at this year’s Baselworld, including a few limited edition watches and new contributions to their L.U.C, Imperiale, Classic Racing, and Happy Diamonds collections. Chopard’s new releases also have more rose gold incorporated into their designs.

L.U.C.

L.U.C. Chrono One

The L.U.C. Chrono One now appears in a 44mm 18 karat rose gold case with a transparent, “arena-style” case back that allows you to view the mechanical self-winding movement, a movement that is entirely designed, developed, and produced in-house. This chronograph also has a highly refined flyback function and a movement certified by the COSC. The Chrono One shares the same rose gold, 1960’s style Roman numerals as the new L.U.C. Quattro.

L.U.C. Quattro

Chopard’s Quattro design was first released in 1998 and this year’s version now has a wider, satin-brushed, 18 karat rose gold, 43mm case. The Quattro movement, the L.U.C. Calibre 1.98, was the first movements to have four barrels, each hosting a 47cm mainspring, which allows for a 216 hour power reserve. This movement is also labeled with the prestigious Poinçon de Genève mark. This Quattro features dauphine hands and Roman numerals with a distinct 1960s flavor.

L.U.C. 1937 Classic

In keeping with the retro trend in the watch world, Chopard released two new editions to its 1937 Classic collection. This style of watch was also first released in honor of Chopard’s 150th anniversary. The significance of this year is that this date marks the period in which the Chopard workshop first moved to Geneva, thus establishing the groundwork for Chopard’s subsequent successes. The 1937 Classic comes in either a porcelain white dial or a satin-finished silver-toned dial in a 42mm stainless steel case. The mechanical self-winding movement is certified by the COSC.

L.U.C Engine One Tourbillon

The Engine One Tourbillon was released last year in honor of Chopard’s 150th anniversary. This year’s release has bright red markers and Arabic numerals incorporated into the design that when contrasted with the white alligator strap, give the watch a clean look. The Engine One Tourbillon also has a 60 hour power reserve with the power reserve indicated on the dial at the 12 o’clock position.

L.U.C. XP Urushi

The L.U.C. XP Urushi boasts a dial hand-painted by Japanese artist, Kiichiro Masumura, using a lacquer produced from Japan’s native Urushi trees. The watch was originally designed to be sold only in Japan, but since Japan’s recent earthquake devastation Chopard has since decided to released this watch worldwide in order to raise funds for the restoration of the country. Chopard released nine versions of the L.U.C. XP Urushi.

Happy Diamonds

Happy Sport Oval Elegance

First released in 1993, Chopard’s Happy Sport collection has grown increasingly popular due to its well-balanced combination of both sport and elegant looks. The latest edition of to the Happy Sport collection is a watch design with an oval case of 18 karat rose gold. The dial is white mother of pearl and has seven of Chopard’s iconic floating diamonds.

Miss Happy

Chopard also released a new selection of Happy Diamonds jewelry named Miss Happy. This collection is composed of smaller circles or hearts with a single floating diamond on slender bracelets, simple diamond rings, and small pendants. The Miss Happy collection is meant to appeal to a younger crowd of Chopard lovers.

Imperiale

Chopard’s Imperiale collection maintains its classy and regal look with this year’s Baselworld watch releases, including two-tone designs with rose gold, pave diamond cases, and Haute Joaillerie with baguette diamonds and pave dials. This year Chopard also released a jewelry collection modeled after the Imperiale watch’s timeless look.

Classic Racing

Classic Racing Superfast Split Second

Chopard continues to honor the car world with its tribute to the history of racing. The Superfast Split Second has the classic Dunlop rubber racing strap featuring the 1960’s racing tire tread texture. The dial design has the characteristic design of racing dashboards, and the watch holds a split-second timing feature contained within a DLC treated blacked stainless steel. The Superfast Split Second watch will be a limited edition of 1000 pieces.

Mille Miglia GT XL Chrono Rosso Corsa

Countries have had racing colors since early competitions in the 1900s; yellow for Belgium, green for England, blue for France, and silver for Germany. Decked out in Italy’s signature motor racing color, the Chrono Rosso Corsa watch honors the tradition of car competitions on a national scale. This watch has a 44mm titanium case with a chronograph function, tachometer scale, and a movement certified by the COSC. This watch will also be a limited edition of 1000 pieces.
