SIHH 2011: Cartier Santos Dumont Black Titanium Watch

Cartier recently introduced a new member of the Santos collection at this year’s SIHH in Geneva: The Cartier Santos Dumont Titanium Watch. The Santos collection started out in 1904 when Louis Cartier took a notion to design a watch for his friend Alberto Santos-Dumont, a Brazilian aviator. The goal was to create a watch that Santos-Dumont could use to check the time while he was flying and featured a case with rounded corners and visible screws.

This latest edition to the Santos watch family still has all the curves of the original design, but with a high-tech modern look. Cartier is continuing the trend of the last few years introducing a skeletonized dial. The skeleton in the Santos Dumont is made of carbon fiber and is contained in a DLC-coated titanium case. The Roman numerals are even integrated into the skeletonized dial design.
