Getting Ready for the Nashville Iroquois Steeplechase

The Iroquois Steeplechase has become one of the definitive signs of spring for Nashville since its inaugural year in 1941. The Steeplechase is primarily about the excitement of the horse races and fundraising for the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt, but this event has become widely anticipated as one of the first major social events of the year. Before the races start attendees usually arrive early to picnic, play games, catch up on news, and of course, show off those hats.
The Iroquois Steeplechase provides a fantastic opportunity to crowd-watch and search for the standards of steeplechase fashion: the seersucker suits, sundresses, and elaborate head-wear that ranges from pieces from millinery masters to home-decorated accessories. Most ladies wear linen suits or cheerfully colored, knee-length summer dresses. If the weather is windy, you may regret a hemline that’s any shorter. The 70th Annual Nashville Iroquois Steeplechase at Percy Warner is only a couple of weeks away. We’re gearing up here for the occasion with new additions to Roberto Coin’s horse-inspired Cheval collection. We have just gotten in a selection of 18 karat yellow and white gold bracelets and pendants with a stirrup motif and pave diamond details as well as a pair of white enamel earrings and a black enamel bracelet with small stirrup charms.

King Jewelers at the Steeplechase Fashion Show

Thursday, April 14th — Yesterday the Inaugural Steeplechase LookBook Fashion Show and Marketplace took place at the Belle Meade Plantation Carriage House & Stables from 5:00 – 9:30 pm. The event featured LookBook’s hottest fashions from local designers for 2011 Iroquois Steeplechase presented on three different runways in the Carriage House. The VIP guests received a catered, gourmet meal from Kristen Winston and a goodie bag from Chopard, compliments of King Jewelers. Those with General Admission tickets received a catered meal from Jim-N-Nick’s and a goodie bag compliments of Macy’s.

The Marketplace portion of the Steeplechase Fashion Show ran from 5:00 to 7:00 and opened back up after the fashion show. Vendors were housed in the stables of Belle Meade Plantation and included business such as The Oxford Shop, Stacey Rhodes Boutique, Gus Meyer, J. McLaughlin, Vineyard Vines, Anatra Jewel, Belle Meade Plantation Gift Shop, and King Jewelers.
The King Jewelers Trunk Show showcased a beautiful selection of Chopard jewelry, watches, and accessories including the new Chopard Imperiale watches and the limited edition Chopard Mille Miglia Alfa Romeo watch. King Jewelers also presented the endlessly popular Chanel J12 watch collection featuring the new Chanel J12 White Ceramic in 29mm, the Roberto Coin diamond Tiny Treasures collection, Mikimoto Pearl collection with a focus on natural, white South Sea Pearls, and the King Jewelers private label collection of new cocktail rings from our Spring 2011 In-House designs.
