Fall 2017 Bridal Trends

Today we’d like to discuss a few of Fall 2017’s most exciting bridal trends. Brides are looking to get back to basics this season- look for simpler settings, alternative gemstone center stones, and colored gemstone accents to dominate the bridal jewelry scene.

Say Goodbye to the Halo

Halo engagement rings (particularly featuring cushion shaped center stones) reigned supreme for years, but their popularity is slowly but surely ebbing away. For Fall 2017 and beyond, Solitaire engagement rings will be the hot ticket. Brides are looking for a more traditional, simple setting that will let their center stone shine. But don’t be fooled, a simple setting doesn’t mean a small ring! Most brides are looking at solitaires with large center stones, particularly pear shaped stones.

Something Blue

Brides are bringing the “something blue” tradition into their engagement rings and wedding bands with increasing regularity. When you think of a ladies wedding band, you probably think of a ring that matches her engagement ring perfectly and sits as flush as possible against her engagement ring. For Fall 2017, look for brides to not only choose a wedding band that is a totally different style than their engagement ring, but to also choose a band designed to wear on their opposite hand! Many brides find that their desired wedding band is too wide and doesn’t sit as comfortably against their engagement ring as they’d like, so they’re choosing to wear these larger bands (or multiple smaller stacked bands) on their other hand.

All That Glitters is Gold

You probably remember your mother or grandmother’s jewelry drawer being filled with yellow gold baubles. The tendency towards yellow gold engagement rings died out in the 90s and was never quite at the same level of popularity… until now. Yellow gold jewelry not only compliments most skin tones, it makes for a beautiful contrast with many gemstones. Expect to see your friends sporting yellow gold engagement rings and wedding bands in Fall 2017 and beyond.

Slice of Paradise

Diamond slices and rose cut diamonds are slowly but surely taking over in both the bridal and fashion jewelry world. For the woman who wants something a little more natural and a lot more unique when it comes to her engagement ring, a diamond slice engagement ring is oftentimes the perfect solution. As an added bonus, diamond slice rings are often far more affordable than traditional diamond rings.

Now that we’ve seen the best of Fall 2015 bridal collections, we’ve compiled a list of wedding dress trends to watch out for next fall. With inspiration clearly drawn from the sexy 70’s, prepare for a departure from all things traditional in 2015. Hint: the 70’s are back, with a vengeance!

1. How Low Can You Go? Plunging V-Necks

Forget about modesty next year – the one trend we see in almost every designer’s Fall 2015 line is deep V-necks down to there!

2. Feathers, Fur, and Fringe

Textures like feathers, fur, and fringe reigned supreme on the Fall 2015 runways in many different forms. We see many overcoats – be they full on leather fur lined jackets or light lace half coats. There is also an abundance of poofy feather-clad skirts and sleek fringe covered sheaths.

3. Peek-a-Boo! Crop Tops and Sexy Cutouts

Fall 2015 brides will probably be showing a lot of skin! Small sheer panels or gaping mid drifts are in. Crop tops were huge fashion staples in 2014, with stars like Taylor Swift managing to wear them in ways that were both chic and classy. It’s no surprise the trend has finally made it’s way to the wedding circuit. Thankfully, designers are offering a wide variety of styles so that any bride, no matter how conservative or how liberal, can comfortably wear a two piece gown.

4. Sleeves Stevie Nicks Would Be Proud Of

There’s no doubt that 2014 was the year of the lace long-sleeve wedding dress – due entirely, we believe, to residual wedding envy over Duchess Kate Middleton’s gorgeous gown. While long sleeves were still a prominent feature of dresses on the Fall 2015 runways, designers are seeking to change it up a bit. Look for sleeves with a more loose fit in flowing sheer fabrics like chiffon.

Top 5 Summer Wedding Dress Trends

Summer is in full-swing here at King Jewelers and we’re dying to share our favorite wedding dress styles and trends for summer 2014.

1. Flowing Silhouettes

Summer wedding dress styles tend to be much more streamlined than winter dresses. While there were a few (gorgeous) dresses with full skirts, the majority of gowns were in the mermaid or a-line style. With so many beach weddings occurring this summer, it’s no wonder a more comfortable, casual shape has gained popularity. This beautiful Theia creation ups the glamor of a simple sheath wedding dress with head-to-toe sequins.

2. Dramatic Embellishment

Summer 2014 has brought us opulent gowns decorated in sequins, beading, and three-dimensional flowers. If the runways are any indication, extravagance will equal excellence in 2014 summer weddings. We love loading up on bling, but this Rivini dress with a large amount of embellishment in a concentrated area was one of our favorites.

3. Emphasis on the Back

More and more emphasis is being placed on the back of the wedding dress as time goes on. Sheer panels, shimmering appliqué, romantic lace, or dramatic buttons- the possibilities are endless and stunning. 4. Short Skirts

With the summer heat wave in full force, it was inevitable that some brides would start gravitating towards gowns with shorter wedding dress hemlines. Designers answered the demand in their summer lines, showcasing everything from knee-length elegance to well-above-the-knee drama. 5. Lace Sleeves

Kate Middleton’s lace sleeved wedding gown started a trend that doesn’t seem to be going anywhere anytime soon. Nearly every designer showcases lace sleeves on at least one dress in their Spring/Summer collections. The romantic look adds a hint of vintage flair to any gown, with the added bonus of not getting you too overheated in the summer months. We’re partial to this off-the-shoulder Berta Bridal creation with a dramatic button up back.

Pretty in Pink!

Between the gorgeous new dress designs on the bridal runway and the stunning new engagement rings from favorite brands like Forevermark and Norman Silverman, 2014 is going to be a year of breathtaking weddings. Although we spotted many trends at the 2014 bridal shows, none stick out quite as much as pink wedding gowns. We know it’s a far cry from the traditional white, but keep in mind that we’re (mostly) talking shades of blush and dusty rose, not necessarily fuchsia.

Vera Wang, arguably the queen designer of the wedding industry, displayed her entire Fall collection in varying shades of pink. Monique Lhuillier, famous for romantic lace creations, featured soft pink silk, rose ombré chiffon, and embellished blush tulle.

It is inarguable that a pink colored wedding dress will certainly make your big day all the more memorable for your guests. We always appreciate a nice pop of color and applaud decision to break tradition for something a little more “you.” Of course, while you may love the idea of integrating more color into your nuptials, a pink wedding dress might be a little too bold. If that’s the case, we suggest something more subtle: colored gemstone engagement rings.
